2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain the life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.
Wow! We have been given all things that pertain to life and godliness through the “knowledge” of him and He (Jesus) has called us to his own glory and excellence.
This means simply, the more we walk in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, to that extent, the more we will have all things that pertain to life and godliness. Coming to know Jesus, not just as savior, but also as Lord is key. Also, He allows us to enter into His glory and excellence.
Daniel, understood this. He walked in the knowledge of who God was and in the power of his relationship with him that caused him to reject the food at the kings table that he understood would defile him. The Bible says of him, He had an excellent spirit. We too have an excellent spirit, because the excellent one lives inside of us. Like Daniel, when we walk in an excellent spirit that God has given us we can walk as free men with authority and power regardless of our outward circumstances. Daniel and his people were supposed to be slaves but look at the authority he walked in. Most people of today, people speak of operating in a “Spirit of Excellence”. That’s one thing and I suppose that is good. But having an excellent spirit is so much better. An excellent spirit is working from the inside out. It means what is produced is a materialization of something real within. Some people operate in a Spirit of Excellence because they watch other people and do what they do. But Daniel had his eyes on God and on pleasing God alone. A heart like that always produces what is excellent in the eyes of the Lord and what is pleasing to him.
Father God, I thank you and I praise you for giving me an excellent spirit that is reflected in all that I am and in all that I do. You are the greatest example of excellence in every way. Father may the aroma of my life produce a sweet fragrance of excellence and may your Holy Spirit continue to bring me closer to you everyday so that my life may exhibit that excellence more and more. As your word says, for it is in you that I live and I breathe and I have my being. I can truly say, Oh Lord our Lord how excellent is they name in all of the earth. You are high and lifted up and your train is feeling the temple of my life. Like, Daniel, Father may I always refuse the “kings” dainties of this world and choose life from the table that you set before me in the presence of my enemies. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
