Delight: to allure, delight, charm, please.
The name Hephzibah from Hebrew literally means, “my delight is in her,: from hephtzi “my delight” +bah “in her.”
According to “gotquestions.org” (“What is the meaning of Hephzibah”) the name Hephzibah expresses a very clear idea. Since the same root hafz means “guarding” or “taking care of,” all words from this root suggest the idea of “safeguarding,” and therefore the name Hephzibah means notably someone who evokes delight, but also “one who is guarded,” a “protected one.”
The term can be found in Isaiah 62:4: “No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the Lord will take delight in you, and your land will be married.: This is a scripture about restoration. God is changing her name from Deserted and Desolate to Hephzibah and Beulah. Beulah means “married”. When God changes a name in the Bible, it signals a transformation, another chance and a new beginning. The passage promises restoration, favor and protection. To be restored is to be made better than new. To walk in the favor of God is extended to those in whom God delights himself. Additionally, we can expect to be protected, because everything about us, concerning us, is married to the Lord. In other words, we are his responsibility entirely. All of his resources of provision and protection are ours just like in a natural marriage. He says, in another passage, “For your Maker is your Husbandman. The term “husbandman” means “farmer” or “worker of the soil”. And to husband is to manage something well, showing prudence and economic sense. Jesus compared God to a husband man in John 15:1-2: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that bearers not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that bearers fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit”. A good husbandman works the earth, cultivates his plants, and naturally expects them to produce fruit commensurate with the amount of effort he has invested in them. Our heavenly Father, the divine Husbandman, seeks to produce fruit through us as we abide in Christ.
It is wonderful to know that God finds pleasure in who He has created us to be. You being you brings him pleasure in a way that no one else can because no one can be you. Take your unique ability to love God in the way that only you can and delight yourself in Him also and He will continue to give you the desires of your heart.
Father, I thank you for this beautiful relationship that you have made possible between us. Lord give me a greater revelation in my spirit of the extreme delight that you take in my life, in who I am. Allow the Holy Spirit to continue to perfect all things concerning me as I grow and live by your grace desiring to please you in all things and in every way. Holy Spirit, put a fire of passion in my heart for the Lord that exceeds my desire for anything else in my life. Give Him preeminence in my heart. If there is anything in me that is separating or blocking me from coming into the fullness of this intimate relationship with my Father, remove it and in its place fill me with the fullness of the godhead bodily.
